A post on Star Wars Battlefront’s website by Patrick Söderlund, Executive Vice President of EA Studios, states that the continued support for the game, even though it was only released a week ago, is one of the main reasons behind the free content. He goes on to explain that Battlefront is the biggest launch for a Star Wars video game ever, and it is the largest digital launch in the history of EA.
Not to mention, he also thanks fans for having so much fun with the game, even making a quip about how Stormtroopers can actually shoot (he even adds video footage to prove it!):
But he continues with information about the free content (that’s really what you want to know right?).
The Battle of Jakku takes place 29 years prior to the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and adds two new maps and a new mode to the game. Apparently…
However, the Battle of Jakku is not where the free content ends. Söderland continues by saying there will be more maps and Star Cards in the coming months.
His official blurb about the content reads:
The Battle of Jakku releases December 8, 2015 to all Star Wars players (or December 1 if you pre-ordered the game), but there are no specific release dates for any of the other content yet. Hopefully those will be announced soon.
Star Wars Battlefront is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
